Mitalee 27th Anniversary Celebration Highlights Video
Media Box
Mediabox is a Department for Children, Schools and Families fund to help young people have a positive voice in the media. It offers disadvantaged 13-19 year olds the opportunity to develop and produce creative media projects. Mitalee successfully received a grant from Mediabox to set up a full time community radio project ‘Diverse FM’ and offer accredited and non accredited training on radio broadcast and presenting to disadvantaged and hard to reach young people. After the completion of the grant Mediabox produced a storybook called ‘1000 projects, 7000 young people & countless stories’. The storybook highlighted 6 of the outstanding projects received funding from Mediabox and Mitalee was one of them. The storybook was launched at a special ceremony inLondonand presented to the Department for Media, culture & Sports, and Department for Children, Schools and Families.
Bangladesh Youth Exchange Project
Youth Exchange Project
Since 1991 Mitalee has been organising a youth exchange programme every other year with a partner group known as The Good Earth, based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The Good Earth is a NGO working towards raising awareness on environmental and health related issues.
The organisation is led by Selim Choudhury, who is a micro biologist and a renowned pop star in Bangladesh.
On each visit young people from Mitalee raise up to £15k through a range of fund raising efforts and gives opportunities to under privileged young people from different communities
and cultural backgrounds to travel to Bangladesh and take part in a range of social educational activities and at the same time gain better knowledge and understanding about the country, its people, culture and heritage.
In addition to fund raising Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council also provides financial assistance towards the costs of the programme.
